When it comes to photographing events and sports, we’ve seen it all– and then some. There’s nothing you can throw at us that we can’t handle.
Events are hectic. High-pressure, even. And honestly? We’re at our best in that kind of chaos.
With a calm presence and a methodical, creative approach to photography, here are three things you can always count on from us:
Dynamic, engaging, story-driven images.
Comprehensive coverage – every photo that you need, and those you didn’t know you needed. A smooth and stress-free experience.
Over the years, we’ve honed our approach, sharpened our skills, and developed our method – one that balances instinct with strategy, and preparation with adaptability.
We care about the details just as much as you do. We obsess over getting the lighting just right. We make every effort possible to make sure your people–your team, your stakeholders, your donors–are completely comfortable and relaxed in front of the camera.
Because this is what makes exceptional photos.
01. Before Your Event
We spend time getting to know your brand and your organization’s goals, and gain a deep understanding of how you’ll use your images. Whether they’re for a new marketing campaign, internal communications, or to boost company morale, we ensure that the photos we take meet your needs.
02. During Your Event
We blend in seamlessly with your group, and we know when to be friendly and sociable and when to be discreet. We’re exactly where you need us to be at exactly the right time. We photograph the details, the key moments, the VIPs, and the human emotions – all to tell the story of your event.
03. After Your Event
We deliver your photos fast. For sporting events, we deliver in real-time. For corporate events, we deliver a set of selects within hours, and your full gallery within days. We want you to be able to begin using your photos right away.
Like most creatives, I started my business out of a love for my craft. You see, I’ve been obsessed with photography since junior high. Once I picked up my first camera at school, I was hooked.
What really drew me in, though, was the ability to tell stories through my lens. Capturing emotions, reactions, and human connections during a moment, event, or a game was exhilarating to me. Photography was my entire life throughout junior high and high school.
But when I got to William Jewell College, I had no camera, and very few opportunities to practice the craft I had grown to love. So after my first month at school, I set three goals for myself: intern at a local newspaper, work for the college paper, and buy my own camera and lens. I wanted so badly for photography to be a part of my life, so I set these goals and hoped to reach them by the end of my four years.
And then I achieved all three by the end of my first semester.
It's safe to say that the intense determination to pursue a career in photography (probably rare for an 18-year-old!) is what continues to drive me today.
2004 - 2008
While at William Jewell College, shoot for local papers, campus events, and win MO Press Association Photographer of the Year (twice!).
2005
Found Rivas Media Photography and start freelancing on the side while at school.
2008 - 2015
Graduate and start working for William Jewell full-time. Continue freelancing on the side, eventually publish work in Sports Illustrated and the New York Times.
2015
Rebrand to Rivas Photography to highlight weddings, and keep Rivas Media Photography as the home for event & sports clients.
2022
Following the pandemic and the Chiefs' Super Bowl wins, leave wedding photography to go all-in on events & sports. Rebrand to Kyle Rivas Media in 2025 without looking back.
A Look At The Timeline
The first time I met Kyle in person at one of our events, we talked as if we'd known each other for years.
We have a very good working relationship – he’s very personable. We consider Kyle to be a tight member of our team.”
